Objectives  

  1. To increase awareness of the extent and causes of perinatal health inequalities in Australia and New Zealand
  2. To advance knowledge on strategies and actions to reduce inequalities and advocate for the application of this evidence to achieve health equity
  3. To contribute to research priority setting activities to reduce inequalities
  4. To foster capacity building and exchange to strengthen capability for reducing health inequalities
  5. In collaboration with other PSANZ groups (e.g. Board, Policy Committee etc.), to identify priority areas for policy development and clinical training needs to effectively respond to perinatal health inequalities
  6. To provide advice to other PSANZ committees on equity issues

 

Scope

The committee aims to advance equity issues for women and families from a range of cultural and social backgrounds, including:

  1. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  2. Māori and Pacific Island peoples
  3. Refugee and Migrant families
  4. Women aged 25 years or younger having their first child
  5. Those experiencing significant social and/or economic disadvantage
  6. Women and infants exposed to family violence in the perinatal period
